Week 3 Roundup

Ola,
I’m sure everyone has been desperately awaiting this week’s roundup to know exactly what we’ve been up to this week… If not please don’t tell me. I enjoy working under the illusion people actually read them, and there has been too many white lies already this week… But first of all, we started the week off with a change of scenery from KF, with some monster hill reps run by Coach Dan, which saw some gorgeous sunsets and super speedy ascents of Galloping Glen. This was followed by pasta night on Wednesday, very kindly hosted by Jonas. Then for double trouble on Thursday! FWTN in Pollock, straight into white lies social. Jammond had a few tricks up his sleeve as he sent our members wiggling around the many hedges of Pollock; before a swift shirt change and equal brainpower was applied to concocting some of our finest white lies (hehe, I think Thursday’s practice is paying off…). As per usual, the attraction of finishing off the evening with a few moves on the dance floor couldn’t be passed up, and we tested whether our freshers had committed our usual pilgrimage to memory yet.

Then back to skog munching on Saturday as our members tackled the rough terrain of Edinchip both for Scotland at the Junior Home Internationals and the final Scottish Orienteering League event. Finlay and Ruari smashed it out of the park to come home 1st and 6th for Scotland, respectively, in the M18 race. With Emily and Scarlett bringing home an incredible 1st and 2nd for Scotland, closely followed by Anna as the first English girl in 4th. In the public races Charlie couldn’t quite catch our alumni Gooch, finishing a very valiant 2nd on Black, with Hannah and Ali first EUOC runners on Brown and Short Brown, respectively. Fran and Dylan crushed the long light green on a tough area for 3rd and 4th, and Imogen came in 3rd on Long Orange! Congratulations to everyone that ran.

After some table tennis, a dip in the loch, a pub trip and some excellent scran, EUOC was fuelled for yet another day of racing round the forests. In the very toughest forests on offer, Scotland reigned triumphant in both the girls’ and boys’ relays to bring victory home to Scotland in the JHIs!! James then sought his revenge on Charlie from Saturday, with a victory on the mass start long, with Fiona coming 3rd lady. Such success was replicated on the short and medium courses, with Fran running excellently on a tough medium course and Imogen bringing home another bronze on the short. What a weekend! Rest most definitely required, especially with a world-class weekly schedule on the horizon…

Till next time,
Your faithful Captain
