This weeks EUOC Legend goes to our social secretaries, Max Bloor and Freya Shepherd. They put on a top beerienteering social last weekend – congratulations!
Name: Maximilian Bloor, Freya Shepherd.
(With Max’s answers coming below in italics and Freya’s in the normal font)
Course: Chemical Engineering, 2nd year, Astrophysics.
Where are you from? Edinburgh, Scotland. The best part of Scotland – the Black Isle.
Why did you decide to be the EUOC social secretary? 50% peer pressure 50% wanting to help the club out. I love to hear all the gossip so I thought there was no better way to do that;)
EUOC highlight of the year (event/social/weekend)? Christmas Weekend – The antics after the captain’s challenge are unmissable. I’d have to say beerienteering.. because let’s be honest max and I smashed it haha.
How did you start off orienteering? My dad brought me along to a lot of events when I was young but stopped when I was about 10 and then got back into it at uni.
Sum up your orienteering career with three words? Where am I. Not yet peaked.
Favourite discipline? Sprint. … gonna go rogue from here and say mountain marathons rather than orienteering.
Best race? Probably Oringen this year as I felt like I was actually navving alright.Gotta be the OMM – that was a real experience.
Pre-race hype song? Tour – Macky gee. This is the Day by The The (or Big Girl by Mika if I really need a boost hehe).
Favourite terrain? Swedish Forests are always pretty dreamy. Any open hill side suits me fine.
Future goals? Would like to break 16mins for 5km in the near future. Not really orienteering related by eventually racing against the big boys in mm elite.
Interesting fact? I can hula hoop for a minute straight. I cannot orientate myself in my own flat.
Orienteering hero? Tom Lines. Maybe not an orienteer but Nicky Spinks is a hero.
Favourite orienteering shoe? Icebugs. X-talon 230.
Left or wrong handed compass? Right handed Left … the only answer.
Favourite orienteering Instagram account? @orienteering_spicy_memes. Gotta be AlMegLizPip.
