Our last legend of the week for semester one is publicity officer Immy! She came second at Quid Games last weekendđ¤Š. Read about her favourite Swedish music and how little she gets the busâšď¸.
Name: Immy Pieters
Course: 2nd year Physical Geography
Where are you from: Sheffield
When/how did you start orienteering: when I moved to Sheffield when I was 8 I did the SYO Saturday schools league when it started
Best achievement in orienteering: 10th in JWOC sprint and 2x top 20s in the forest, 3s off qualifying at EOC – nearly got some World Cup points!
Favourite area: Â technical Italian old hill town for sprint – like Rotongella. Forest wise, the Czech runnable pretty forest, niche one I don’t know the name of where we did a trains training at (apparently if you did this training you know)…
Most memorable moment in orienteering: JWOC mixed sprint relays because they are fun and intense and itâs so fun to race the top girls in the world – especially in the maze in Romania. Also those moments in the forest when you realise you actually donât hate it.
Biggest rival: Izzy Howard because we have been so close to each other since we were w12s and done all the internationals competitions together, but so nice we both support each other and want each other to do well
Biggest idol: Meg or Grace because they both manage to do so well at the international scene from working, and uni etc with the constraints of training in the UK and are such great role models and both have really good outlooks on working hard!
What is your hot drink of choice for the interview: decaf cappuccino – I already had my flat white this morning
Your most listened to song at the moment:Â After Hours by Elephant Sessions
Go to sweet treat: a date with chocolate and almond butter
Favourite artist at the moment:Â Loyle Carner or Veronica Maggio
Favourite Edinburgh Bus Number: the 5 is useful because it goes to waverley but I normally cycle everywhere (Immy hates this questionđĽ˛)
Pre-race ritual: a banana an hour before warm up, 3k jogging, strides, drills and a gel if Iâm feeling I need to nourish myself
Most recent google search: Nike Vapourfly 4s because even though I want to boycott Black Friday Iâm tempted to get them on sale
What would you eat if you had one meal for the rest of your life: Paneng curry and liquorice ice cream (not together) because they are my favourite foods in the world
Sprint/forest: both – I have more strops with the forest but I love both equally
What is your worst orienteering experience: when I first ran for GB at EYOC 2022 in Hungary I had a leg time the same time as the winner of the course on the long – 180 degree error for 25 mins
If you had a superpower what would it be: either never be able to get injured or ill or to be able to teleport to fun places for fun training and fun mountains
Dream sponsor: RAB because I think itâs a cool brand and I love their jackets, clothes and ethos
Favourite thing about EUOC: everyone is really lovely and the training is really good and thereâs so many people to train/run with every week
Question from Charlie: If you could completely get rid of an orienteering area what would it be: Birsemore because itâs actually nice but I had a major strop with the forest because it kept making me fall over
