JEC x EUOC Fundraiser Knock-Out Sprint

Join us back in Edinburgh this May to try out Knockout Sprint — orienteering’s newest and most exciting format. Held in Wester Hailes, previously used for WOC 2026, it promises to be a high-quality day of orienteering — perfect preparation for the British Sprint Champs and Senior Selection Races in June. Featuring both an elite and open class this event is open to all!

About JEC

JEC (Junior European Cup), is one of a few international junior races held each year. It’s an important competition for both performance and development as we can send 24 athletes to experience what it’s like to race at the highest level. However, the associated cost of sending a full team is large, and so we’re putting on this event. All proceeds will go to supporting this year’s and future years’ team — helping our juniors continue to achieve their potential.

Courses

In the morning there’ll be a sprint “qualification” race (although everyone goes through to the afternoon!) Winning time of 15 mins on each course. We’d recommend Long for Men’s Elite and Medium for Women’s Elite.

In the afternoon we’ll have the main event: a Knockout Sprint with quarters, semis and finals. For those of you who don’t know the format goes as follows.

There are 3 rounds. Each round runners will be split into small groups of six. Each group will mass start on a short (6-8 mins) sprint course and the first few to cross the line progress to the next round. It’s fast, it’s fun and clean navigation is absolutely key to make it all the way to the finals.

There’ll be three categories for the knockout – men’s and women’s elite (for the fastest), and an open (for those giving it a go). We will seed the open category to ensure everyone has a fair shot at making it to the final!

If you get knocked out, fear not, everyone will progress into the next round so we can make sure you get your moneys worth. There’ll however be some prizes for the people who make it all the way! More about the knockout system coming soon.

All in all we’ve got some fantastic sprint lined up for you. Perfect preparation for the British Sprints and selection races!
