Legend of the Week #3 – Fiona Eades

This weeks legend is Fiona our amazing Social Sec!! 🌟 From Heriot and studying Structural Engineering and architecture (4th year) she has been orienteering since day 1 ! After organising some super fun socials this year 🎉, smashing some races 🏃‍♀️, and unfortunately breaking both wrists last week, there has been lots to discuss!

Name: Fiona Eades
Course: Structural Engineering and Architecture 4th year
Where are you from: Heriot (near Edinburgh)
When/how did you start orienteering: Basically from birth! I started on the string course when I was tiny with my parents. After lockdown I started taking it more seriously and training properly.

Best achievement in orienteering: 3rd place at the Scottish Middles near Inverness this year!
Favourite area: Lady Cubin – contours so lovely and beautiful to run through
Most memorable moment in orienteering: At the Big 5 O in South Africa (2017-2018 New Year), a giraffe ran past me mid-course. Better than your average deer in Scotland!
Biggest rival: Mairi (my sister) because she beat me by 2 seconds at the JK Middle…
Biggest idol: Mairi again… she wasn’t so strong as a junior but worked really hard and is now part of the British team.
What is your hot drink of choice for the interview: A hot chocolate, tea and coffee are a no.
Your most listened to song at the moment: ‘Where is my husband’ – RAYE
Go to sweet treat: Biscoff biscuits with Biscoff spread. Anything double biscoff goes down well.
Favourite artist at the moment: Nathan Evans because of the general vibe I love.
Favourite Edinburgh Bus Number: The 5 for definite. It’s literally the only useful one from my flat.
Pre-race ritual: A bit of running, some stretches/activations before going too the start and maybe a sweet for some oomph.
Most recent google search: Google pixel 9a – I need a new phone.
What would you eat if you had one meal for the rest of your life: Spaghetti bolognese. make a big batch and have it 3 days in the row and will live a very happy week.
Sprint/forest: Forest all the way.
What is your worst orienteering experience: Pretty much every Lakeland Warrior. It is always some combination of very cold + wet.
If you had a superpower what would it be: Photographic memory (for uni), but also flying as that would be pretty cool and you can see everyone from above.
Dream sponsor: ASICS as I love their shiny new kit and would love an unboxing!
Favourite thing about EUOC: I love the weekends away and the holidays. Going to fun places with lovely people!
Question from Freya: How long can you do a handstand for? Zero seconds because I have broken both of my wrists at beerienteering
